How to become a dancer?

Have you ever wished to dance like professionals whenever you saw them perform flawless moves on TV? If you have, you can make your wish come true. All you need is hard-work and complete dedication.

Dancing is not an easy task. Even the established dancers have to keep on practicing everyday to achieve that freshness and new innovations. If you want to pursue your career in dancing, it is important to take your time and choose the right type of dance style that suits you.

Set your goals

Having a goal is necessary no matter what field you choose to enter. You need to set a personal goal before you enter into this beautiful world of dancing. If you are joining dance just because your friend is doing it, you can never be a great dancer. However, if you plan to make a career out of it and are willing to spend your time learning, then you will be skilled and proficient dancer over years.

Choose a right dance style

There are different kids of dance like ballet, contemporary, tap dance, modern and jazz. Choosing a random style will be of no help. You need to choose a dance style which you have passion for. When you do this, you will always enjoy learning and excel in it.

Find a dance school

This can be little tricky as there are many dance school offering specific type of dancing style. What you can do is research dancers and teachers in your area and ask for their references. You can ask your friends or family members who are in this field. If you need more assurance, you can read reviews available on the web as well.

Get the right gears and uniform

You should be dressed according to your choice of dance style recommended by your dance teacher. Generally, it’s tap shoes for tap dancing, black pants for jazz and pink tutus for ballet. In order to avoid mistakes, talk to your teacher first before you make any purchase.

Practice everyday

After you choose a dancing style, lessons, gears and uniforms,it’s time to practice your dance moves. Practicing every single day will help you master your dancing skill. The best way to do this is in your bedroom where nobody is around. During the first few months, you need to be careful with the practice because you can easily get exhausted. So, give your body time to adapt to your new lifestyle then increase your practice duration gradually as you learn.

Improve your eating habits

Dancing requires a high level of muscular co-ordination and is physically demanding activity. That’s why it is necessary to eat a balanced diet. Drink plenty of water as dehydration can make things difficult as dancers are athletes. Caffeine promotes dehydration and dancers should limit the intake of tea and coffee.

Build up your confidence

Keep telling yourself that nothing is easier in life. It’s easy to lose your confidence along the way, especially when you are unable to catch up with your friends and end up measuring your achievements against theirs. Everybody has a different learning curve. Few months or a year later, you would certainly see yourself improving. All those famous dancers are successful because they are passionate and hard working people.

You can’t become Sophie Daguin or John Cranko overnight without all the hard work and efforts. With enough practice you can become the next big thing that ever happened to dance. Keep dancing and shining!
